The Great dionysus Project
For this project we had to produce a play. We had four performances and had actors, directors, writers, backdrop artists, set designers, costume creators, and stage hands. Each class voted there top play to perform and had the people that wrote and created the idea direct. The format was that it had to be a tragedy and had to be written like the Greek times with choruses.
My class put on a play called Internal Silence. It was about a father and son that had lost their wife and mother. They had a lot of tension and couldn't work through it after the wives death. The son fell in love with an illegal immigrant and wanted to sweep her off her feet and take her away to New York where he was going to college. The girl had a friend she lived that was a drug dealer and didn't like Carmen, the girl, boyfriend and the idea of her dating a white boy. Carmen, Jacob(the boyfriend), and Miguel(the friend/drug dealer) go at it and get into a fight. Jacobs dad, Jim, is a border patrol agent and has to go arrest him for dealing drugs. The father kills both Miguel and Carmen. The son gets devastated and mad at his father so the father ends up killing himself.

In this production I was a documentarian mainly, a background artist, and stage hand. I would help a lot towards the end with the background because we had the most complex. It was the San Diego city skyline from Coronado. On the nights of the performances, I was a stage hand because we had some of the most difficult scene changes. We had to change it from a taco shop to a home in under 30 seconds.
My favorite part about this project and also the best experience I will take away for the future is that when you really strive to do something it will be completed. It was so amazing that we put on a whole play in under a month and basically did what people do for livings.
