Welcome to my Digital Portfolio
Hi I'm Becca Branch. I go to High Tech High International in San Diego, California and am currently in 11th grade. I have been a part of the High Tech Schools since kindergarten, attending Explorer Elementary and High Tech Middle. I have played volleyball for Storm, my High School's Varsity team, for three years and Beach and Bay, a travel volleyball team in my off season of High School. I have danced since I was three and now am a part of the highest dance group at my studio, TOPs(Team Of Performers). My biggest passion is travel. For a month in January I was able to go to Hawaii for an Internship at a satellite campus of University of Hawaii. My project for internship was making a solar powered phone charger for the students to use in between classes on campus. I also got to spend time with my brother who lives on North Shore, Oahu. I have been to Costa Rica, France, Italy, and Spain. I am planning a trip to Nicaragua and Costa Rica over my spring break for students at High Tech.
The Biggest Wave Ever Surfed
In 2013, in Nazare, Portugal, Brazilian surfer Carlos Burle surfed a 100 foot wave. This is the biggest wave ever surfed in known history.
I have a lot of respect for big wave surfers because the confidence they have to have is way out of my capacity. They surf waves around 20x their size for a daily, fun, job. I have seen videos of some wipeouts in their profession and how deadly it can be but for some to get back out on their board with little to no emotional scaring is amazing. Right before Carlos road this wave he had saved a friend who had whipped out and broken her ankle. She was then floating in the water face down so he jumped off the jet ski and pulled her on to the beach so she wouldn't be crushed under by another wave. If I were to ever attempt something like this I think it would be best to learn how to surf waves my size first.

Sepak Takraw
Sepak Takraw or kick volleyball, is a game that is mixed of soccer and volleyball. I personally enjoy both sports, that is why I find it so interesting. Just about every play in "kick volleyball" is a backflip or a fan kick with incredible control. It has acrobatics, balance, coordination, accuracy, reactionary, team player, and aggression skills. It is mostly popular in Asia and is played in the Asian Games because it doesn't have the popularity to be in the olympics. It is played with 2-3 player teams with similarities to volleyball but only feet. Players will jump up to "spike" the ball and the opponent will try to block with their legs or back. This is one of those sports you have to watch to see the incredible athleticism preformed by the players. If I ever find a group of people that play this I would love to learn.
