Here are some over views on books and reviews.
House On Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros:
House on Mango Street was about a girl named Esperanza trying to find her identity. Throughout the book Esperanza grows into a women and experiences the troubles of growing up. Sandra Cisneros Took an aspect that everyone can relate to and wrote it down into an amazing book.
Like Water For Chocolate By Laura Esquivel:
A girl named Tita has to follow tradition and take care of Mama Elena like a slave. Mama Elena forbids the love between Tita and Pedro, and has Pedro marry Tita's sister Rosaura. Laura Esquivel really has you rooting for Tita from the very begin to the end. She gathers you in so you feel like you want to help her but can't.
ANtigone By Sophocles:
Brothers, Etocles and Polynices fight over the family thrown because they couldn't share it after their father passed away. They end up killing each other making Creon king. Creon makes a law that no one can bury Polynices because he wasn't on the thrown at the time so Antigone goes against the law and buries her brother. Sophocles was a tragedy writer for a reason. He has you mourning for Antigone the whole play and like a horror film saying no don't do that the entire time.
Dear Zoe By Philip Beard:
Dear Zoe is a book about a girl who's younger sister was killed in a hit and run car accident on 9/11. The book takes place around a year after and all the struggles that the sister Tess must face. This Book is a very emotional book and doesn't have the best ending but the Author, Philip Beard really took every character into perspective when writing this book.
A long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy soldier By Ishmel Beah:
In a long way gone terror has struck up in Seirra Leone Africa where Ishlmel lives. He has struggles throughout his whole journey trying to run away from the war. Eventually he becomes a boy soldier and has to be rehabilitated because he has become a killing machine. The best thing about this book is that all these stories are completely true. Sometimes because of the protected world we live in it almost seems crazy that he lives alone in the forest.
Chinese Cinderella By Adeline Yen Mah:
Chinese Cinderella is just like Cinderella but in real life. Adeline from the beginning of the book is treated awfully and abused because she is a step child and is the youngest. She is shoved away into boarding schools where she excels but is still put down because of stupid reasons. This book is incredible to see the progression some one has from their youngest years to finally maturing and moving on to an adult.
Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer:
The book Into the Wild is about a man Alexander Supertramp that takes off on a journey to break free from society. He hitchhikes all around america eventually ending up in Alaska. He dies because of poisonous seeds, but his journey is very inspiring. I became inspired because of his philosophy about how society controls us and how we might not live how we do if not for society.
