ART DECO
~
the predominant decorative art style of the 1920s and 1930s, characterized by precise and boldly delineated geometric shapes and strong colors, and used most notably in household objects and in architecture.
~
This style of collaging is based on the genre of art, art deco. I decided to take the glamor of the gold and make shapes that would interlock and flow together. My general inspiration was from the poster from the Great Gatsby.

OP ART
~
a form of abstract art that gives the illusion of movement by the precise use of pattern and color, or in which conflicting patterns emerge and overlap. Bridget Riley and Victor Vasarely are its most famous exponents.
~
This collage style is op art or optical illusion art. I decided to weave two different pictures together, one black and white and one a print out of pop art. This created an odd look of pieced together art.

SELF PORTRAIT
~
a portrait of an artist produced or created by that artist.
~
For this art piece I decided to work on making the images cohesively melt into one another. I used a very decorative and intricate background so that when I put simple pieces on top for my collage they would pop out.

About the author:
Currently I live and work in Oakland, California with my wife Evah and our cat Jalapeño. Once in a while I take on illustration commissions, but most of the time I paint and sculpt for exhibitions. I think it’s important to constantly challenge oneself with new ideas and new mediums. My interpretations of the world are mostly rooted in science then executed through painting and sculpting. These are the best ways for me to communicate, but I always enjoy making other things as well.
~
I got the inspiration from the idea that the round "black hole" was like the bottom view of an ocean and the persons head was sticking out of the water. I decided to change it to a mermaid because if the persons head was sticking out of the water it would have the same effect of looking similar to a person above the water. The only difference would be what we could see underneath.
